Welcome

Welcome to our class. We are a mixed class with Reception, Year One and Year Two children and our teachers are Mrs Blackburn and Mrs Humber. On this page, you will find information and photographs about our learning throughout the year.

Otterham School sleepover
Nearly all of the children in Years One and Two (along with children in the older classes) returned to school for a one night sleepover during the Autumn Term. For some children, this was the first time they had stayed away from home and so it was a gentle introduction as to what a school residential is like. The talent show and toasting of marshmallows were a highlight for many!
DT
Our design brief in DT was to ‘design and make a new chair for Baby Bear’. After exploring suitable materials and the properties of a chair, we tried, tested and evaluated our products to see which were the strongest and most stable.

PE
Go Active have introduced us to lots of new skills and activities this half term, including archery and dodgeball. During the rest of our PE lessons, we have been following the ‘Fun Fit’ programme and begun to master some basic skills needed for a game of tennis.

Farm to country roadshow
We learnt lots about the food we eat, including where it comes from, the processes it goes through and how many products can be made from milk. Thank you to Jo from the ‘Farm to Country’ roadshow for coming to visit us.
History
Our class have found ‘The Great Fire of London’ a fascinating History unit. We have remembered lots of facts, including when, where and why the fire started, why Samuel Pepys’ diary in an important source and how the fire was eventually extinguished.
English
The first text we studied this year was ‘Oi Frog’ by Kes Gray and Jim Field. We enjoyed creating rhyming pairs, before innovating the original story to create our own versions. Here are some examples of our finished pieces:
