Friends of Otterham School (PTA)
Friends of Otterham School Update – January 2024
We are pleased to say we have had some very successful fundraising events recently; this is down to the goodwill of parents, guardians, grandparents and the local community. It doesn’t go unnoticed and we are forever thankful for the level of engagement we get at Otterham School.
The Great Otterham Sleepover back in November 2023, was a great evening for pupils and a substantial sum of £600 was raised. Our thanks go to the staff and Friends members who were involved to ensure the event went ahead.
More recently, we have had the Christmas Fayre and Raffle. Thanks to another massive community engagement, we raised £779.25. The Bag2School collection we had also in December raised another £80. Finally, we were fortunate to have a generous donation of £200 from St Juliot Parish Council in the Autumn.
You may well ask what have the Friends’ done with all the money raised. Below is a list of the most recent trips, equipment and experiences we have contributed to.
- £500 per class to spend on what is required, including equipment, new books and some put towards funding class trips
- Subsidised the upcoming theatre trips
- EYFS equipment, including a new play kitchen
- The little extras on the Christmas Dinner (think pigs in blankets, stuffing, crackers, chocolates)
- Party food and prizes for Christmas Parties
- Individual Christmas present for each child
- S boards for the playground
- We are currently in the process of sourcing replacement sheds for those that have suffered weather damage
- Wheelbarrows for gardening club and outdoor play
We were also kindly donated brooms and gloves from members of the community and larger brooms from Tamar Trading to help the gardening club.
Looking towards the Spring and Summer we are hoping to investigate replacing some of the wooden seating areas and small gazebos around the playground.
We are always looking for new members to join the Friends and fresh ideas are always welcomed.
Keep an eye out for our next meeting date and come along if you think you may be interested in joining us.
